Annual Inspections: Learn what's required for your fall protection systems.

Taking the first step to acquire a fall protection system is a huge move in the right direction to secure compliance. Not only does it eliminate the risk of injury from a fall for your team members, it also protects you against the often tremendous cost of penalties and workers' compensation claims that come as a result of non-compliance. Although it is a necessary first step, securing your fall protection solution is not a "once and done" responsibility. Fall protection systems require annual inspections. Owners of these systems are liable and responsible to meet the OSHA requirements and manufacturer recommendations to ensure the continuation of their safe use.

Although we provide quality engineered systems built to last a long time, annual inspections help to protect your investment and the integrity of the system. Engineered fall protection systems of all types are subject to wear. Lifelines may become improperly tensioned, bolts can become rusted or loose, as well as many other potential opportunities of physical wear. Unauthorized system modifications made by unqualified individuals over the course of a system's life are also a common and large liability. All of these potential scenarios put your employees and company at risk.

Both the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have requirements of inspection for fall protection equipment. OSHA requires the inspection of the equipment and components before each use and after any fall event. However, through OSHA 1910.6(a)(1), standards from ANSI are adopted as standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. ANSI's inspection standards specify that fall protection and fall rescue equipment shall be inspected on a regular basis not to exceed one year, or more frequently if recommended by the manufacturer.

Ark Safety inspectors are trained to identify visual deformations, evidence of physical wear, damaged components and unauthorized modifications. Our inspectors will also evaluate for damage caused by unreported falls that may require repairs prior to further use. As a full turnkey provider, not only are we qualified to document these system flaws, we are also able to make recommendations for system repair and handle the repair itself.
