Soft Shell Splint
An economical alternative to the materials (e.g. plaster and fiberglass) currently used to form simple volar splints in emergency departments, orthopedic clinics, medical offices and rehabilitation centers. The Soft Shell Splint® is a rectangle of "O" temper aluminum encased in soft foam. Foam on the skin contact side is open-cell for permeability of vapor and moisture.
Aluminum is thicker on one end (marked by a double diamond) and thinner on the opposite end (marked by a single diamond) The skin contact surface of the splint is covered with an absorbent brushed terry cloth, and the non-skin surface is overlaid with Velcro-friendly material. When a simple volar, clamshell splint, thumb splint or ulnar gutter splint is required, the Soft Shell Splint® is an economical and quick alternative to plaster, fiberglass, thermoplastic or other synthetics.
